The best conditions for change
Here at Portsmouth City Council, we're bringing together all the right things to transform the way we work for local people. Combining local pride and passion with a significant budget for regeneration, we're investing in Portsmouth's identity to create better sustainable transport, better housing, better jobs, and better schools, improving outcomes for those who live and work in the area.
Developments such as the Spinnaker Tower and Gunwharf Quays are helping us to develop our profile as the Waterfront City. And in the future, our ongoing economic regeneration initiatives and our key role within the Partnership Urban South Hampshire means we're entering a really crucial stage in our own development.
Change for us started in 2002, when we replaced our committee system with a Leader and Cabinet system, improving decision making across the Council as a whole. Now, each of our nine Cabinet Members (including the Leader) is responsible for a range of council activities which fall within:
- Health & Social Care
- Children & Young People' Services
- Planning, Regeneration & Economic Development
- Traffic & Transportation
- Culture & Leisure
- Environment & Community Safety
- Housing
- Resources
By providing councillors and officers with new freedom to resource and develop frontline services, we can act to ensure the City and the people of Portsmouth get the best from us.
You'll find us thriving under our leadership and strategic vision, working as one council to deliver evermore community-focused services. And now, more than ever, we're engaging with local people, factoring their needs and wants into our strategy and policy making.
With all these major developments, Portsmouth is an exciting place to live and work. Join us as we transform both the city and local authority.
